Peek at this unbelievable art deco period building in downtown Oakland. Is called the Howden Building. And not only is it covered with detailed tylework, it’s also got stained glass and a small mosaic on one side. Oakland really is beautiful!
Killer whales and dolphins and an octopus swimming under the freeway! I love these random street art finds.
These guys are in North Oakland close to Piedmont.
A possible solution to the bay area’s housing problems, or maybe just a cool mural.
This is the side of a house in West Oakland, and I leaned over the fence to get the pics of the bottom of the mural. So bright and colorful!
These herons and hummingbirds are both found frequently in Oakland. I see herons in Lake Merrit, and hummingbirds buzzing around flowers in gardens everywhere. The iris are less common, but they are nice.
Both of these are fairly new mosaic trash cans done by New World Mosaics and they are in the lower part of downtown oakland, just below Old Town and Chinatown.
Street art from the alley next to a bar in Chinatown Oakland. A regal lion, a pac man ghost by @math_dis, and a funny looking guy. All mixed into the beer kegs.
Well look at that! It’s been one year to the day that I started sharing my pictures of street art, public art, and garbage can art with you all on this blog! It’s been a wonderful year and I’m still delighted every day to find the little surprises on walls, and alleys, and stickers that the street artists leave for us.
I also really enjoy watching street art as it changes over time. Sometimes a piece will get added to, or tagged over, or completely erased. Aand after that, sometimes the same artist will return to do a new piece in the same spot. So cool to see it evolve!
And thank you, dear viewers, for giving me the perfect Blogaversary gift, reaching my goal of 10,000 page views in one year (actually we’re over now with about 10,500). My other goal was to do 365 posts by today, and I’ve made it! So today, for my 365th post and my Blogaversary, I am going to share a picture from each of the top ten most popular posts that I’ve done all year. And if you like a pic, follow the link underneath it to go back to the original post and see all the pictures.
Enjoy, and let’s see how fast we can get to 20,000.

Here is harm, up on the wall, stay out of his way. Also a nice memorial wall to Oscar Grant and Mario Woods. The first is by #math_dis and both are in downtown Oakland.
Here are some golden poppies to brighten up your rainy day. California poppies are the state flower, and they open every morning when the sun comes up, and close again at night. They love the sun! This mural is on a wall in Downtown Oakland.
Curious streetart that’s maybe a mixture of different artists. Those are irot birds and Reggie Warlock monsters. And those breasts? Let me know what you know.
And for this streetart that was outside drying, well, maybe someone got carried away.
Quit expecting favors, going dumb. Well that’s quite a message, but while favors get us a long way in life, expecting them to be given makes us arrogant and ungrateful.
However, nice street art by @math_dis.
